Personal Projects
I have three wonderful boys, and each one deserved a unique birth announcement.
For Carter, I handcrafted a dozen or so “leaping lady” ornaments. They required quite a bit of prototyping, laser etching, and wife-convincing. This project won a 2017 Austin Bronze Addy.
Evan’s announcement was life-size so I could show off the little bugger at full scale. I also wanted to try some new techniques. I learned how to use a sewing machine to stitch the bindings, deckled the edges, and did a faux thermography on the cover and envelope. It was kind of a pain, but worth it. A lot like childbirth, I guess. His announcement was selected for AIGA 365, and is part of the AIGA Design Archives.
For Lucas, our firstborn, the budget was particularly tight, so I printed them all with custom rubber stamps. His announcement won a 2007 National Addy (Gold) and was featured in Communication Arts magazine.
Additionally, I designed annual letterpress prints as Christmas gifts for the members of my congregation. I’m a sucker for a deep deboss.
The keychain was created for the youth. It references a scripture from the New Testament (the theme for the year).
